Butterfly...A Call to Transformation...

Native Butterfly Carving

Butterfly that flutters in the morning light....you have known many forms before you e'er took flight
(Quote Sams & Carson Power Through The Ways of Animals)

We are transforming on a cellular level within every breath we take...quietly re-defining our physicality .
The Metamorphosis of Butterfly is one of the Mysteries of Nature and within this post I will be using Butterfly as a Metaphor for Transformation within "Your Own Creative Cycle"
Butterfly is very sensitive to the Harmony of the Earth. We, as sentient beings are also connected to the Harmony of the Earth. When we feel that discord within our own connection to the Rhythm of the Earth...we are no longer in Harmony within our Physical, Emotional and Mental Bodies.

Many of the Ancient Civilisations believed that Butterflies were symbols of the Human Soul. The Greeks believed a new Human Soul was born each time a Butterfly emerged from it's cocoon. ( I will refer to this later in the process of transforming within the Spiritual Death)

In The Pacific Northwest Coast Native Mythology of the Haida Gwai the Butterfly Totem was the Companion, Scout and Spokesman for Raven.

The Hopi had a Butterfly Clan and frequently painted Butterfly on Prehistoric Pottery in the Ritual Butterfly Dance.

The Native Americans of Mexico or the Aztecs believed the Butterfly was a symbol of Re-birth, Re-Generation, Happiness and Joy.

The Blackfoot believed Dreams are brought to us by the Butterfly

Transformation
Photo-Google

What of the Transformation within your own understanding of your Spirit? What is your next step to Internal Harmony?
Let's Begin.....continuing within that next layer of the Medicine Wheel.
( If this is your first visit to Ravenmyth, please read the Medicine Wheel Post before going on to Butterfly)

To Transform we need to allow a " Spiritual Death" to take place...surrendering to the Rising of The Phoenix through a Burning of "Old Patterns of Being"
( For clarity purposes, a Spiritual Death is not a Physical Death. It is a Metaphor for the "Death of that which no longer serves The Spirit")

Your Spirit is always calling to

Andy Everson K'omoks Native Artist

You can physically and mentally hear and feel that call when you feel out of sync and out of step with your Earth Rhythm or your World. This will register in your body or mind in different ways. Be aware of your thoughts at this time or how your body is feeling or reacting. This is where you begin to build your own understanding of your Message-Language ( your Internal Dialogue)

What is the Message your body is trying to send to you?
How does your body Speak to you? Once you start to understand your own Message-Language you will start the process of Releasing your Spirit to its own Cycle of Transformation.

The Caterpillar
Photo-Google

The Caterpillar did not question when it surrendered to the process of the cocoon. ( Her process is that Metaphor for the Spiritual Death)

She allowed herself to surrender her old form, trusting she would be born again in her new form...her Creative Cycle Process of Faith.
Death....Transformation....Butterfly

Will You Surrender To Transform?

Butterfly
Photo-Google

....Ask yourself....

What is that one part of you, calling to transform, that you are willing to surrender to?
Where, in this very moment do you feel the most discomfort within your Physical, Mental and Emotional Bodies?

Is it your Fear of Surrender?
If I Surrender I am no longer in control. When I control I do not have to feel or deal with those Inner Demons that Taunt my Pathway to Harmony.
It is easier to Live with the Familiar Old Patterns than to "Change" or "Transform"
"You ask too much of Me."

I am too busy!
I am afraid!
I can't do this!
It is too hard!
What will happen to Me!

Is this your Message- Language ...
(Inner Dialogue) of Self Deception talking?

Will you Surrender to Transform

Faith of Youth
Photo-Google

When we were young, we were not afraid to Surrender. We were invincible. We danced to the Rhythm of the Earth and embraced the Harmony of our Spirit. We walked in our Power...unafraid.

The Power that Butterfly brings to us is the Element of Air. It is the Mind. In the Medicine Wheel she is Butterfly Clan ( Air). From the East we follow the Path of Enlightenment to the West, the Path of Introspection and Transformation coming from the experience of strength within the Sacred Elements.

Know your Mind to Change it. Understand your own Message-Language.
It is the Art of Transformation.

The Cycle From Cocoon to Butterfly
Photo-Google

Like the process of stasis within the cocoon...self transformation is a cycle.
In Butterfly Medicine you need to be aware and observe your position within that cycle.

To do this you may want to explore your own understanding of where you are within any given moment.
Be Mindful.

Butterfly Reflection

Your body will always Reflect and Talk to you, telling you where you are at all times.
This is your Message-Language.

The key is " To Learn to Read your own Message-Language". This is your Signature. No one else has it.
"What is your Internal Language"
This is your starting point within your Cycle of Transformation.

Turning Point

This is now your Turning Point. Here is where your faith and trust come into play...overriding your fearful voice of Self Deception.
Are you Listening?

Let's try something.
When you get a sense of a Message for Transformation being presented to you...Write it down....
It could be a Positive Statement or a Negative Statement. It does not matter. It is the "Signature" of your Language trying to communicate to you. I feel you will start to see a Pattern for Recognition. This is essential for understanding what your Pattern Dynamics are.

Once you know this Language....only then can you begin to Transform Old Patterns and Habits.
....If you Choose....

The Emerged Butterfly

Now you are being "Guided" by the most Powerful Medicine of all
"Your Inner Spirit"
The Butterfly emerging from the Cocoon

Like Butterfly you are always at stages of Transformation.

My interpretation of Harmonic Transformation

Within Myth and Legend, like Butterfly, you are always at stages of Transformation in your life.
The way to Discern where you are in your cycle of Transformation is to be aware of which stage you are in ( quote Sams and Carson)

The Seed or Egg Stage

Butterfly Eggs
Photo-Google

Your Thought and Awareness within your Message-Language....the Beginning Stages....it is a Seed, planted within the Mind...not yet a Reality...waiting to be Born.
....Thought....

The Larvae Stage

Butterfly Larvae

You choose to create your Transformed Self in the Physical World.
....Choices....

The Cocoon Stage

Butterfly Cocoon
Photo-Google

This is where you go within...learning your Message-Language in a state of quiet...and re-developing your aspect of self from knowing who you are in the Moment and who you will Transform into after Surrendering to a "Spiritual Death" or "That which no longer serves the Spirit"
Here you integrate Thought and Choices, preparing the Manifestation of your Creation.

The Re-Birth Stage

Butterfly Birth
Photo-Google

The final stage of Transformation is leaving the chrysalis and birth. You are now sharing the many layers and colours of your Creation within the Web of Life. You are now that New Perspective...shedding one more layer...or many layers.
Living the Medicine of Butterfly

Butterfly

Transformation is not easy...but give yourself permission to try...take baby steps...and if you find some too hard....Cocoon....and take the time to develop whatever you need to step out and try again. You do not need to force it.
Be within your own Flow of Transformation, Be Patient and Be Kind to Yourself

Let these Stages be the Headings where you place your awareness of your Message-Language received. It will become your road map to Transform through your own Inner Guidance.

Each Layer will be Revealed....Will you Follow Your Own Road Map to Self Transformation?

Road Map to Butterfly Transformation
Andy Everson, K'omoks Native Artist

Here we  begin the discovery into your Message Language and what that would look like for you.

I am going to give you an example of a Physical Reality and we will look at how that would equate into a Message Language ( Inner Dialogue) .

You are running in 10 different directions...you feel out of control...you are exhausted...your coping skills are at nil....nothing is getting completed...others are pulling at you, wanting their own needs and wants met....life is unravelling in your work place, in personal relationships...or all of the above...

MESSAGE-LANGUAGE
Emotional Body

I feel cranky and angry
I feel overwhelmed and bunched up
I feel a loss of control over my choices
I feel fear, I may loose my job
I feel a drop in my coping skills
I feel I have to give more to others, but I have nothing left to give
I feel out of sync with my personal relationships

Mental Body

I am done!
I can't do this!
I am better off the way it was!
I will go back to doing things the old way because it is easier and that is the way I have always done it!
I will not change....It will Fix itself!

Physical Body

I am physically exhausted!
I have no energy!
I am getting sick all the time, cold and flu!
I am getting headaches lately!
I have an upset stomach!
My nerves are always on edge and my body is off today!
All I want to do is sleep...then I do not have to deal with all this!
or
I am not sleeping well these days!

These are just a few examples of how our built in defence mechanism can keep us stuck in old patterns and we do not even know how we got there.

Unlock the Mystery of your own Message Language
Photo-Google

Will you Listen to Butterfly Medicine?

Our Mental, Emotional and Physical Bodies are Screaming
" SOMETHING IS WRONG"
I need your help....I am out of Sync...I am not in Balance

This is your Message Language talking to you....can you hear me?

Are you drawn to certain colours?
Are you drawn to quiet places?
Do you want to or just Turn your Phone Off?
Do you feel you need to take time out from Events and People?
Are you drawn to Comfort Food?
Are you drawn to an Alcoholic drink at the end of the day to help you to relax?
Do you just want to be left alone?
Do You Feel The Need To Cocoon?

If you have felt any of the above or some of the above, you are not alone...I know I have!

What do you See within your own Transformation
Photo--Google

To Transform, where are you in your Cycle

We all need Positive things to Hold onto...can you choose to not waste Heartbeats on that which you cannot change and focus on what you can.
Every breath you take is Creative...what do you Create within your own Breath of Transformation.
Are you in a Positive Creative Cycle...or are you in a Negative Creative Cycle"
They are both Creation
Remember
The Negative Creative Cycle can only hold you back...if you let it!

Negative Message Language....is Illusion....Positive Message Language ....Is Perfection

How can we Transform to Perfection when we are already Perfect within our own Creation...constantly changing our Perfection within our Transformation.

Perfection

Butterfly enters our Life as a Message for Change. She asks us to stop keeping our Joy at bay. Take the Time you need to be Alone with yourself...to listen to your gentle request for Natural Transformation

Take notice of what your body is telling you...let Butterfly Medicine give clarity to your mental process and guide you to your own Personal Transformation.

Be Discerning and Mindful of your Message Language

This is a time of year that can be Joyful for some and Sad for others. It is also a time of year when we make our New Year's Resolution for Change. I will be kinder, I will listen more, I will be there for others more, I will quit smoking, I will go on that diet, I will find a job...etc... but, to do all these things or just some of them we first need to Transform...one step at a time...

  4. Wow Raven, you are right on time with this. It’s as though you had me in mind when you wrote it. I suppose I’ve been in the cocoon stage for awhile now, for I’m generally in a reclusive mood. I prefer to hide from the world and STAY in my cocoon. Today I went for a drive, just to get out of the house and away from even the family. I parked in a shopping center parking lot, then drove some more… then parked in an abandoned lot by a house for sale in my neighborhood and crashed. Watched a squirrel cavort and shimmy away, and then dozed off. At last I drove aimlessly around town, meandered on out in the country and finally came back home. All the while I’m wondering, what is wrong with me? There’s so much I need to get done: an article that’s nagging away at me to get it written, but I don’t know what to say. And I’m tired of preaching to the choir. (Being the editor of this publication, I have to get my editorial written :-( Now I’m sure I’m a butterfly soul because here I am, flitting from one thing to another. And tonight I read here that this is just a normal transformative phase. Thank you for reminding me! ~ peace and joy!!

  5. A wonderful post as always, I am cocooning right now with a peek now and then to see what is going on out there. I recently figured out I am not depressed so much as I am suffering from massive disappointment in the ones I love. This happened because I was expecting, I thought I was loving. You cannot love with expectation, I know this, now I am reconciling this and moving on. Accepting people as they are is part of loving. As a mother who sees poor choices being made it is very difficult. My mother did it with me, I had half a lifetime of very bad choices, she never walked away. I do not mean to put my self in harms way, but neither will I judge nor abandon. This post is so wonderful I am still in awe of your writing skills, the photos are always stunning and go so perfectly with your words. Thank you for this and all your words.

  7. This has always been challenging for me. . .surrendering. However, I have been in the learning process for the last few years and am getting better at it. I'm thinking it will be an ongoing, daily process. There are times I grab the wheel and have to pry my fingers away. Thanks for making me think, again! <3

  10. Dear Rave,From the very first letter your article takes me in its grip. Prior to getting drawn into your 'wheel' I used to muse mockingly,'what is my message to myself?' and I was so shocked to find the same phrase in your article, though in a little different way!And then your words put my inner wheel in a spin.Being an ardent devotee of Shakespeare I have always wondered at his fascination with Ovid's 'Metamorphosis' and have been thinking about this wonderful process Nature has gifted to us all. Your present article has given me most of the answers and at the same time it has posed some new questions to me about my own evolution. It brings me back full circle. what is my message to myself?Oh, I have so much to learn yet! Will I ever become a butterfly just to fly away to eternity?Oh, I dunno!!!

  11. Raven you always describe your words of wisdom with beautiful images. I can sense the change my body and mind is going through at the moment. I can feel those subtle changes. When I find myself at this point I take a pause.. it is this pause when decisions need to be made or will be made.. and I know it will be for the better...
Thank you for such a wonderful post

  15. Surrender...that is so difficult Leeann. I have been trying to do just that for the past one year. Trying to change my thoughts and patterns. There are days when I feel I am free of the old but then there are days when I cling on the old, afraid I will lose everything. But I know I have to keep trying. Reading this today my resolve has become stronger. If I dont I know I will keep making the same mistakes over and over again. Thank you my dear wise friend for this. I have been waiting to read your post.

  17. I feel like I'm emerging from the cocoon after a transistion period but it'll probably be awhile until I'm fully transformed into a whole being again. A new stage of my life is unfolding and the future holds much promise but taking things slowly at this point. In the cycle of life change is constant and we can embrace it or resist the upheaval....Like the butterfly I'm ready to soar and flit about. Thanks for giving me much to think about!! Great images and post!! Blessings!!

  18. @ Debra...this post does sound like perfect timing for you and you really needed some alone time. Good for you..you listened to your Message- Language and allowed yourself the space to nurture. Amazing how our bodies talk to us...and basically put you down...you were in overload...needed to cocoon and make different choices for yourself...well done girl! Thank you for sharing this validation of Butterfly my dear friend...Always...xx

@ Daisy...A beautiful breakthrough for you...Expectations are a tough one to discern and if we learn to have no investment in the outcome of our actions we are facilitating the true essence of Love and giving to others. Here is where we give from the Heart by our own Choice...very powerful way to administer to others. If you have expectations, you will always be disappointed...but this is part of the human condition and a pattern we all carry...so do not beat up on yourself. The wonder is...when you have that Eureka moment...you are going into a stage of Pattern Transformation...stepping into a new layer of your own Potential as a loving caregiver of your family..I am happy for you my friend...and thank you for recognizing the correlation between the words written and the photo's.. Always..xx

    @ Sajith...always a pleasure to see you here dear friend...supporting and sharing...very much appreciated...Thank You!...Always...xx

@ Pamanner...I think surrendering is one of the most difficult things we learn to do...and we sometimes drift back into our old ways as a defense mechanism for survival...it is definitely a daily process...but the good thing is you recognize that...it is ok to grab the wheel...just remember to let go again...thank you for sharing your wisdom within this post...Always...xx

@ Sulekkha...I can feel the joy in your heart...the power of the Positive Creative Cycle gives life to your own Manifestation of Transformation. Butterfly reminds us of a proces we go through over and over again...the visuals are such an integral part of my posts..bringing words to life and hopefully we see the journey we are on...thank you dear friend for sharing your Joy in this post...Always..xx

@ Jyoti...you are right about Butterfly Medicine, she is the perfect Metaphor for deep reflection and transformation of the Soul..morphing through her stages..yet surrendering to the outcome without expectations...like Butterfly we are always in transition...and I would believe for the good..whether we go forward or back...we always have the potential for change..so happy you enjoyed Butterfly Medicine and thank you for sharing your own wisdom with us dear friend..Always...xx

  19. @ Portia...you experience within the ongoing journey of the Medicine Wheel is well written...you understand where you are within your own stages of transformation..and that too will change. But understanding your own Message-Language will make those changes easy as you flow through your cycles. We are always transforming and regenerting and being born again in our metamorphosis...we do it daily...but know you will always be the Butterfly...and you are already flying...for this is your Eternity...within every breath you take...thank you dear Portia for sharing your wisdome within this post...Always..xx

@ Savira...the talent of knowing and sensing the changes within your body is a honed skill. It is wonderful when we get to this stage within our own evolution. When you take that pause, you are being mindful..this is so powerful as your choices come from knowing exactly what is needed at the time...it is the Knowing of your own Spirit...thank you for sharing your insight within Butterfly Medicine dear friend..Always...xx

@ Janu...thank you for being a part of Butterfly and sharing within your understanding of Transformation...Always..xx

@ Jessica...I agree...the journey is wonderful...each moment of transformation and evolution...not unlike the Butterfly emerging from her Cocoon is a Miracle of Beauty...faith and trust within our own Spirit. For me the Journey and the Destination become one...in every breath we take...thank you for sharing your own wisom within Butterfly my dear friend...Always..xx

@ Shreya..I too love the images..I take alot of time looking for the right visual.. before I start writing the post I begin looking for the images....there is a knowing of what the core of the post will be and somehow the words and the images become one...all in place before the creation begins...then they fall together in layers...building and transforming along the way. Thank you for seeing this within the posts..as it is an integral part of bringing it all to life...Always dear friend...xx

  20. @ Rimly..as I said to Pamanner, surrender is very difficult...I think we are in constant flux with the process of surrender..like the waves on the beach...going forward and falling back...but it is ok..the good thing is your recognize where you are within your own stages of surrender. I think when we hold on...we are in fear of loosing ourselves...it is a powerful defense mechanism that pulls us back to our old patterns...but it is just that.. a mechanism...when you learn to change a pattern once..you can do it again...when the time is right and all the forces are coming together within the process of transformation...taking the leap within the Spiritual Death..moving into creation of new patterns...it is perfection. Rimly I see in you a constant resolve to Transform...it is a way of being with you...and dear friend...you are already doing it...every day. Yes, sometimes you will cocoon..but that is ok and it is needed...it is your process of Butterfly...but you will always emerge...another layer added within your Transformation ...thank you for sharing your own insight into your journey with us...Always...xx

@ Judie...I too love Susan Seddon Boulet...she has always had a way of drawing me through the veil to another place...a place I recognize and understand...thank you for your beautiful words of support and caring...I am happy to be apart of the Journey of so many...you amongst them dear friend...Always...xx

@ David...I thought about you when I was writing this post and yes, you are coming out of your cocoon and going through layers of transformation. Definitely, you will have moments of cocooning again...but you are supposed to...it is how you evolve...but the key is ...you transform...and I have seen it with you. The Butterfly is not whole until she goes through the process of her metamorphosis within each stage...and as humans, we will do it over and over again. So, like Butterfly, you are right where you need to be...taking things slowly and doing it your way. David, you understand your own Message-Language and you give yourself the space to do what is needed at the time. Well done. My dear friend...I have aleady been watching you soar and flit about...feels good to see that in you. Me too...loved the images I chose...Always...xx

  24. This is sooo beautiful Raven and I'll be taking the Medicine Wheel and this call to transformation as one of my major reflections this Christmas ~ from cleansing and purification to metamorphosis.
Right at this moment, I feel called to enter those areas in my life that have remained hidden and have not grown to maturity. When I enter my cocoon, I pray to unveil myself before God ~ I truly wish to let go of all my fears so that true love will shine...
Oooo, I loved how you've showcased the different stages in a butterfly's life. You made the process more exciting to undertake.

I'm heeding this call :)Thanks Raven :)

Your process is exciting Melissa...and we all share in your Magic...thank you for sharing your wisdom dear friend...Always...xx

  28. You know Raven I am always the last one on ur posts coz I take out time to read them patiently in solace. They require my complete attention. Thanks for sharing the beautiful positive vibes. They are absolute pearls of wisdom.

I am a very serene natured person but lately I have discovered that I get angry very easily, its just because I am soo pissed off from all the emotional setabcks now and then. I am amazed at times that how people are liers. They r very selfish and there is soo much expectation from the family and friends around.
They fail to understand that the person on the other hand is a human and also needs to breathe according to their own will and needs.
I am soo irritated all the time. Raven I easily do not share my emotions or anthing related to my life with anyone. I am so protective about m y emotions. But after reading ur posts continuously, I felt like asking you...what should I do? How to calm soo much restlessness in me though one way it is good for me coz I pen down more..

    Thanks for this post raven!!

  30. shone like a sun, as white as light, all beings undergo transformation with time. each transformation has a purpose, a purpose to help us grow. we must realize and understand, adapt the natural grow, with positive attitude. we often have an illusion that death is a close call. but it is a transformation, a new form mentally and physically, after a U turn like the metamorphosis of a caterpillar to a butterfly.

loved reading the full article about the butterfly and real meaning of it's transformation. butterfly medicines are a great heal for an exhausted negative body and mind.

Just like the butterfly, I too will awaken in my own time

I truly loved this as I recently noticed a shedding of skin, or a cocoon in my own life. Things that angered me or people who had hurt my feelings in the past no longer were an irritant and I found myself hugging them close to me and wanting the best for them. A lot of my ego is being replaced with empathy and it feels amazing! This is another of your posts that I will print out and keep.

I was happy to see someone other than me here in your fans who is a devotee of Shakespeare like me. Yes, at cambridge we are taught about Ovid's theory of Metamorphis but you made it so appealing to me!

  38. Just a quick visit to advise you, I’m about to make an announcement on my Blog http://angeljanesworld.blogspot.com/ It’s in connection with an award that is presented to 5 blogs who have less than 200 followers... the aim is to highlight favourite blogs and hopefully bring more traffic.

I’m awarding you ‘The Liebster Award’ for being one of my mosy favourite blogs and sharing so much interesting stuff with me.

    Namaste :)
